My Lifeview, My Philosophy

I believe that society, as a whole, is the sum of its parts. I have always strived for excellence and been driven to help others be the best they can be. If I can make a positive difference with one individual, and then another and another … and perhaps move these people to do the same for others, the world will be a much better place.

I envision this as having a ripple or butterfly effect where each individual’s actions can lead to widespread impact. This notion fulfills me and serves as my purpose each day, and is represented in my Kimbo logo.

I am curious about how things work and how parts of a system work together. Throughout my career, I have inherently understood the critical nature of relationships.  Whether they are relationships between parts of a system or relationships between people, relationships matter.

I pride myself on my ability to build positive relationships, and I consider myself a strong advocate for others. I recognize that human dynamics are complex and that they can bring great reward and pose unique challenges. I work to cultivate balance and resilience for both children and adults.

My Background

For as long as I can remember, I always wanted to be a teacher. I had a chalkboard on the wall of my bedroom growing up, and I played school with my dolls, as well as my younger siblings and neighbors (when they’d let me!).  When I was in high school, I distinctly remember that desire being further ignited by the words of Christa McAuliffe, the astronaut and teacher who died on the space shuttle Challenger:  “I touch the future; I teach.” I was inspired and began to pursue my teaching career full of passion and determination.

I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and a Master of Arts in Teaching and Teacher Education (with an Elementary Math Specialist Endorsement) from the University of Arizona.  I took further coursework toward my administrative credential through Northern Arizona University.

My professional experience includes 31 years in public education.

I taught 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades before becoming a principal.  I served two different elementary schools in Catalina Foothills School District (Tucson, Arizona) in this role, for a total of 19 years. Each year in this capacity, I directly supervised a staff of approximately 65 people, including a total of ~175 teachers and ~2800 students.

In addition, early in my career, after a few years of teaching, I also worked on three grant-funded projects serving the Southern Arizona community through the University of Arizona Department of Mathematics. This involved interfacing with administrators and teachers in seven local school districts, as well as staff and volunteers through Girl Scouts of Southern Arizona.

Since leaving my role as a school principal in July 2024:

  • I have become a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for a foster child in Pima County.

  • I have become a Surrogate Parent through the Arizona Department of Education. In this capacity, I am able to serve as a surrogate parent for children being evaluated for or receiving special education services.

  • I am pursuing my Advanced Facilitator Credential through the Waters Center for Systems Thinking. While I worked with systems thinking as a teacher and administrator, this year-long program is advancing my knowledge and skills, as well as my ability to support others utilizing a systems thinking approach to deepen understanding and produce desired results.

  • I participated in NAESP’s Leadership Immersion Institute (May 2025) to acquire formal training on the 2019 edition of Leading Learning Communities: Pillars, Practices, and Priorities for Effective Principals.
